My journey started early, fueled by passion and purpose. My grandma gave me a guitar when I was four, and those long walks with my dad to the nearest public phone—so he could talk to his customers—ignited my curiosity about communication. That's where my strong desire to work in telecommunications was born. I initially aimed to become an Electrical Engineer, hoping to join El Salvador's national telephone company. While my path shifted a bit due to the limited computer lab at S.F. City College, my core goal never wavered. Engineering didn't pan out, but my drive to connect people certainly did.
In 1990, I kicked off my career in sales at McCaw CellularONE in Minneapolis. My sales results quickly earned me a promotion in 1994 to their International Division as a business consultant, which took me to Colombia. There, I deployed my first contact center for Celumovil (now Movistar). More promotions followed, leading me to AT&T Wireless IT in 1997, where I was the single point of contact for IT and contact center operations management across California, Oregon, and Washington. My time at AT&T Wireless was marked by significant achievements in contact center infrastructure and software development project management. A key project, directly relevant to what I do now, was the successful evaluation and purchase of 100 million software licenses for AT&T Wireless's Single Sign-On application. Today, I find immense meaning in helping small business owners. It takes me back to those walks with my dad, reminding me how important it is to communicate and understand clients' needs, project timelines, and importance of getting paid on time. I understand from personal experience the risk involved in extending credit, so when I had the opportunity to work in the third party collection industry, I took it personal to figure out how to communicate effectively with slow paying customers and became a master bill collector, I collected what other failed to do. I possess the know-how to turn unpaid accounts into cash on hand through psychology and technology.
And yes, I still play my guitar. It's more than just a hobby; it sparks creativity and, in harmony with telecommunications, helps me communicate and win for the benefit of my clients.
